1EVERYTHING IS NOTHING.

2It’s True! Watch:

S = SOMETHING

EVERYTHING IS NOTHING.

3You are NOTHING. People trying to be SOMETHING just look stupid.

4NOTHING can change That. Things are what they are: NOTHING. Want proof? Compare the history of the United States to the history of the Fall of Rome. NOTHING is the only thing that really changes!

5NOTHING makes Sense. Try asking “why?” into oblivion on any subject. Reason either falls apart back into NOTHINGNESS, or you become one of those annoying self-actualized snobs.

6Have Faith in NOTHING. Say all your prayers to NOTHING, it works to achieve EVERYTHING. Just remember to expect NOTHING to happen and you will be rewarded with EVERYTHING. NOTHING died for your sins. NOTHING is omniscient, omnipotent, and benevolent without there ever having to arise any “problem of evil”. NOTHING feels better than a nice tall glass of wine and a shower at the end of the day.

7NOTHING is Beautiful. The serene perfection of NOTHING is rivaled by NONE, but NOTHING doesn’t take it personally. It is said by the vulgar that NOTHING is the same as the Buddhist “Nirvana”, although the POEE has determined that “Nirvana” is definitely SOMETHING and therefore can be no more than a passing fetter before reaching NOTHINGNESS at best.

8NOTHING is the Truth. Believe in NOTHING, and EVERYTHING will be okay. It’s when one begins to believe in SOMETHING that all hell breaks loose. If one believes in SOMETHING for too long, they instantly reincarnate as a Bush-Cheney 2004 Campaign Button. Believing in NOTHING is the equivalent of believing in all possible SOMETHINGS – NOTHING is true, ALL is permissible, ALL HAIL ERIS!

9NOTHING will set you Free. NOTHING is your Golden Ticket. NOTHING will just give the whole world to you for free. NOTHING is as omnipotent as ‘Persistence and Determination’ (Calvin Coolidge).

10NOTHING can kick God’s ass. No matter what the religion or how many Gods there may be in question, NOTHING beats them all. NOTHING can make stuffy theologians agree with each other on any given point. All Gods came from NOTHING to begin, so what did you expect?

KallistiCon 2008 is coming - June 20-22!

Every year this millennium, we've gotten together in the Bay Area in California. We're not just rehashing gags from the Principia - we're moving forward, practicing chaos in the world.

For the last seven years, we've eaten and drank together, we've made friends with strangers in traffic, we've had rituals and blessings, we've been weird in public, and we've been human with each other. We’ve found the freaks who thought they were the only ones, and taught them - and ourselves - what tribe is supposed to mean.

Some of you will say: "But Discordians are supposed to be disorganized."

Didn't you know that's just a put-on?

Some of you will say we’re doing it wrong, and only you know the right way to follow Eris.

That's OK. Just quit talking about it and start doing it.

Some will no doubt repeat the tired cliche: "We Discordians tend to stick apart."

Of course we do, but sticking apart is more fun when we do it together.

Throw out your old memes. Greg and Kerry are gone, Bob Wilson is gone, Camden Benares and the other old-timers are gone. Let's honor and respect them. Let's learn from their lives and their teachings. But let's stop trying to be them.

Dream of Eris

I had a dream last night of the Goddess of Discord. It was a bit weird with offerings of blood like wine. It really looked like blood. Lots of chaos in the dream and at one point a circle was cast and I would of thought the circle would of been cast differently but it was done clockwise and after that all i remember was that everyone in the circle was doing another circle with a bean bag type thingy but it was like poi *fire twirlling* Some girl dropped it and then i woke up. Strange I know. Who knows that means....can be anything.

Eris in Astrology

There is a thread going on over on the Astrology Tribe and I thought I would 'solicit' ideas as to the meaning of this planet and what it represents. Since the planets generally represent the same themes as the deities they are named after.

Greetings my friends,

I am a priest of Eris, goddess of chaos and chance. Few know much about her... but this goddess rocks...

Many are turned away from this goddess by their fear of chaos... and its seeming destructiveness and DIS-order. This coming from people with so many DIS-eases. ..:>)

Who then is this goddess Eris revealed? What archetype of the universe does she presents as... and represent?

When she was not invited to a party of the greek pantheon... she showed up anyway... rolling out the golden apple with the engraving "For the Fairess". The resulting bickering amidst the other goddesses results in the Trojan War. Go figure.

You can try to avoid and ban chaos in YOUR life too... but she WILL come to the party.

Better to invite her and embrace her than to find her present anyway... and offended. Much better.

She is a goddess that still directly impacts every human all the time in the material world.

She does have a dark side... that of CHOAS in the form of destruction and explosion. But that too is a needed part of evolution. It is the volcanoes that form the land which all else is built on.

But she also is the goddess of CHANCE for those who EMBRACE her and welcome her into their lives.

She is how synocracy manifests in reality. She manifests karma through "chance" encounters... unusual activities...

Her touch is always gently upon us... and as we question reality and look at the mechanisms of the universe... as we stare off in contemplation... you may well come to realize you are staring into the eyes of this goddess.

The track of EVERY life is greatly and disproportionally impacted by the sudden unexpected chaotic events of our lives...

It is similarly deeply influenced and shaped by an incredible array of chance encounters and chance sequence of events.

Eris lies hidden in the shadow... a goddess possessing an internal yin/yang... capable of great acts of light or acts of chaos and disruption.

SHE doesn't have a lot of minions and followers. The path to finding her is steep but short... because she lives in the shadows at about 90 degrees from the reality we normally perceive.... and many people fear those shadows and that short journey.

Where order is TOO tight and rigid... she provides chaos and disruption. Where there is TOO MUCH chaos... she uses "chance" to add elements of order.

Hail Eris... Goddess of Chaos and Chance. Daughter of Darkness and Light...

Press Release: Discordian Society Acquires Limbo

DISCORDIAN SOCIETY ACQUIRES LIMBO

Monday 23 April, 2007

In a surprise move today, the Discordian Society, a small neo-religious group which worships the Ancient Greek Deity of Chaos called "Eris" (and known to the Ancient Romans as "Discordia"), have announced that they have acquired the non-corporeal realm known as "Limbo".

Limbo, the theological concept previous belonging to the Christian Catholic Church, was abandoned by the Church last Friday.

Although the Discordian Society is anarchic in structure, a self-proclaimed spokesperson for the movement who identified himself only as "His Wholiness the Rev.DrJon" made the following statement:

"The Discordian Society, in line with previous acquisitions, welcomes the arrival of Limbo into the fold. We look forward to giving the place a clean sweep, a good polish and a nice redecoration. We'd like to thank fellow Pope* Benedict XVI for making this opportunity possible. We'd also like to offer the hand of friendship to those tenants of Limbo who chose to stay. We assure all who do wish to stay that they are welcome to continue to reside in the manner to which they are accustomed, however we will also be undertaking a rolling series of improvements over the coming eons, which should see a marked increase in liveability benchmarks."

There is no word yet as to what purposes, if any, the Discordian Society plan to put Limbo to, however opinion is divided amongst the Discordian faithful.

LOS ANGELES (AP)—A distant, icy rock whose discovery shook up the solar system and led to Pluto's planetary demise has been given a name: Eris.

The christening of Eris, named after the Greek goddess of chaos and strife, was announced by the International Astronomical Union on Wednesday. Weeks earlier, the professional astronomers' group stripped Pluto of its planethood under new controversial guidelines.
Since its discovery last year, Eris, which had been known as 2003 UB313, ignited a debate about what constitutes a planet.
Astronomers were split over how to classify the object because there was no universal definition. Some argued it should be welcomed as the 10th planet since it was larger than Pluto, but others felt Pluto was not a full-fledged planet.

After much bickering, astronomers last month voted to shrink the solar system to eight planets, downgrading Pluto to a "dwarf planet,'' a category that also includes Eris and the asteroid Ceres. The new definition states that dwarf planets are not really planets.
Meanwhile this week, Pluto received a numerical designation to reflect its demotion to dwarf planet status.

Eris' discoverer, Michael Brown of the California Institute of Technology, said the name was an obvious choice, calling it "too perfect to resist.''

In mythology, Eris caused a quarrel among goddesses that sparked the Trojan War. In real life, Eris forced scientists to define a planet that eventually led to Pluto getting the boot. Soon after Pluto's dismissal from the planet club, hundreds of scientists circulated a petition protesting the decision.

Eris' moon also received a formal name: Dysnomia, the daughter of Eris known as the spirit of lawlessness.

It's like KallistiCon, only sadder: the weekend traditionally known as "President's Day Weekend" this February (16-19) will host at least three Robert Anton Wilson memorial events in the San Francisco bay area, not to mention several other Discordian events.

That weekend also hosts PantheaCon, a huge neo-Pagan convention in San Jose, CA. This convention has long celebrated Discordianism with rituals and presentations, and is where I will be spending much of my weekend.

The memorials:

Saturday night is Discordian.com's annual PantheaCon Discordian ritual. We'd planned a Papal Inauguration to formally install everyone as Pope, and we feel that this is now more important than ever. We will also honor RAW's memory and works in full Discordian style (uh, what that means I'm still a little unsure, but I'll have it figured out - got any ideas? email me). Monday afternoon sometime is the PantheaCon RAW memorial run by the PantheaCon staff. Robert Anton Wilson came to speak at PantheaCon for several years in a row. This is where I gave him a Saint certificate in 1999, and also where I met a friend who has been instrumental in the PantheaCon rituals since the beginning. These are people who knew Bob, who had worked with him and talked with him many times, and I hope everyone who can make it out this weekend can make it to their memorial service too.

The weekend also promises other Discordian events including a Discordian time travel ritual done by a good friend of mine on Sunday night at PantheaCon, and a reprise of the presentation that Fox and I did recently in Berlin on Discordianism & Culture Jamming (also Monday afternoon).

I've had the Iliad by my bed for well over two years now. It's a slow read.

I am reminded of the Iliad when thinking of truth and metaphor. I am reminded of the world when I read this bit at the begining of Book Two.

I always thought it would be interesting to have a movie about Eris. Perhaps not in the historical sense, but as a "Goddess in modern times" premise. (I read somewhere once that there might be a movie, but it turned out to be fake)

Eris - bad/good/neither?

We had a discussion today at lunch about whether Eris should be considered a good or bad little goddess. We were referring to, of course, her reputation for being a little troublemaker.

My personal thought is that Eris is not "good", but absolutely neccessary. Without a good dose of chaos, the world stagnates. It facilitates growth, its an essential part of the cycle of things.

Eris helps us adapt.

About my Tribe name

I am new to this tribe and figured I had better get this out of the quick. I have had eris as a nickname, sometimes with the honorific "Lady" in front for about 8 years. I did not pick it just for Tribe.net or this tribe. Many people in my life only call me this. I am not asking for approval, I just am trying to avoid instant flaming for being "wanna be" or somthing, ok? The name was, of course, chosen due to my interest in discord and Eris, so I won't try to wiggle out of that part! :)

Eris dream character

eris has repeatedly appeaed to me in dreams. sometimes egging me on at the beginning of a wild adventure, like when i joined the psircus in B.C., other times getting me into trouble. she is always a striking black woman and usually an assasin-like character. it is always the same woman though i have never seen this woman in real life. i often find at the end of the dream that she has been a "double agent" the whole time.
but i haven't had a dream with her in it for some time. perhaps since i am in such a roothed and somewhat predictable phase she has grown bored of me?

ode to my cat Eris

I had a cat that I named Eris.
She was sent to me by my boyfriend at the time.
His name was Troy, by the way.
He had found her in a campground in Troy, Missouri while his band was on tour. I thought it was funny because he spent so much to have this skinny, little kitten flown to me in L.A. when the whole reason the band had to camp out on tour was to save money.
She was a feisty, and feral cat.
Could catch anything, even hummingbirds to my dismay.
Eris, my cat.
A true discordian.

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody knew anybody named Eris. My husband and I decided to name our daughter Eris (now 17 months old). As much as we thought that would bring on a reign of terror and chaos, she's a wonderful kid. Really, people ask us all the time if she's that good all the time. I know somebody before she was born said they knew somebody with that name and she was pretty, nice and popular.

Do you think the name itself will make the person or will they be themselves no matter what they are named?
